This year marks the 150th Anniversary of the opening of the Great Northern Railway works in Doncaster.
Rail enthusiasts came from miles around to see the locos at the plant's Open Day.
In a century and a half building and refurbishing engines and rolling stock, the Doncaster Plant Works has gone through a few incarnations. Current owners Wabtec got together with Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council and the National Railway Museum to hold a historic Open Weekend on 26 and 27 July 2003. The Plant, as it is known locally, has been the birthplace of 2,500 locomotives and thousands of carriages and wagons. Some of the most famous, like the Flying Scotsman and the Mallard returned to celebrate the anniversary. |
