Gold Coast - Surfers Paradise Four hours down the coast and we hit Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast. What a contrast! This is 35kms of the most intensive tourist development in Australia. A continuous landfill of ultra-expensive high-rise holiday apartments and cheap motels, punctuated by airport-sized shopping centres and clusters of restaurants and convenience stores.

The beach is magnificent
...and surprisingly not that crowded
...swimming in the sea is strictly controlled and patrolled due to fierce rip-currents.
swimming is only allowed between the red and yellow flags
the construction seems never-ending
time to take the rays....
ooh..er!

Grumpy meets at Grumpy's
a low fat ice-cream |
..he's chilled again!!
