Gold Coast - Surfers Paradise

Four hours down the coast and we hit Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast.     What a contrast!  This is 35kms of the most intensive tourist development in Australia.  A continuous landfill of ultra-expensive high-rise holiday apartments and cheap motels, punctuated by airport-sized shopping centres and clusters of restaurants and convenience stores.

...swimming in the sea is strictly controlled and patrolled due to fierce rip-currents.
