Day 25. Antigua

Antigua is a market town where the surrounding highland producers of coffee beans, wheat, sugar cane, fruit, and vegetables can buy the necessities and finer needs of life. Here, the  women sell their wares at the public market.

 

The church of the convent of La Merced has a Baroque façade covered with a profusion of filigree decoration.
 

The complex of La Merced consists of two parts: the church itself, which has a richly decorated facade, with vines and grapes everywhere but is very simple inside, and the convent, which was destroyed by the big earthquake of 1773 and is only partially restored.

Our hotel courtyard is the end of the trip. 

A 28 hour journey back home follows which gives us plenty of time to reflect on a fantastic journey.  We have seen so much in 5 different countries.
