Malacca

A fairly short drive from Kuala Lumpur and we were in Malacca.

This old town has retained much of it's character and old buildings.

Baba Nnyonya Museum.  Three houses that had been knocked through at the turn of the 1900's and converted to a wealthy single family home.  The house is more or less as it was then and forms the museum.  It is still owned by the same family.

We had cocktails at Harpers, and even managed to persuade Rose the manager to give us a free one.  We got quite drunk, in fact so much that we slept through the 8.7 earthquake!

We were sober at this stage!

just how many beers does it take to sleep through an 8.7 earthquake?

The time we visited coincided with the 20 days of old-souls.  A time to pray and remember the dead.

This shop was selling paper goods of every description (satellite dishes, mobile phones, cheque books, passports etc) which the family burn in front of the memorial tablet of the person they are remembering to provide them with goods in the next life.
